Large Molecules or Biologics

Biologics are large, complex molecules derived from living organisms.

They include proteins, antibodies, and nucleic acids, and are used to treat diseases by targeting specific components of the immune system or other biological pathways. Due to their size and complexity, biologics are usually administered via injection. Unlike small molecules, biologics often require specialized storage and handling conditions to maintain their stability and efficacy. They are typically produced using recombinant DNA technology, which involves inserting the gene encoding the biologic into a host cell to produce the desired protein. Biologics have revolutionized the treatment of many chronic and life-threatening conditions, including cancers, autoimmune diseases, and genetic disorders, by offering highly specific and potent therapeutic options.
