Tabix

Tabix is a bioinformatics tool used to index and retrieve specific subsets of data from large genomic files, such as VCF, BED, and GFF formats. It creates a binary index file that allows for rapid querying of genomic regions without needing to load the entire file into memory. This indexing capability is particularly useful when dealing with large datasets, enabling fast access to specific chromosomes, intervals, or variants. Tabix is widely used in NGS workflows to facilitate efficient manipulation and visualization of genomic data, especially when working with files containing millions of entries.
